It didn’t take long for Micah Parsons to become a dominant force for the Cowboys’ defense, spearheading a speedy unit that has shown a knack to take over games when called upon.
Parsons’ immediate impact in the NFL quickly drew comparisons to one of the league’s greatest defensive players of all time in Lawrence Taylor. Although it’s still early in Parsons’ career, many believe that the young linebacker can follow in Taylor’s footsteps.
Taylor took to Twitter on Tuesday to show praise for the Cowboys’ playmaker after his impactful showing in a 23-16 victory over the Giants. Parsons didn’t record any sacks in New York on Monday, but his presence still opened the door for DeMarcus Lawrence and others to succeed against the Giants’ offensive line.

Taylor’s storied NFL career saw him record 132.5 sacks while receiving 10 Pro Bowl nods and nine All-Pro selections. He was in attendance for the Cowboys’ matchup with the Giants and offered a challenge for Parsons to aim for the same heights.
“He’s playing pretty well, let’s see if he can keep it up for dag-on 13 years,” Taylor said.
Back in the 2021 season, Hall of Fame coach Bill Parcells declined to comment on comparisons between Parsons and Taylor. Parsons currently leads the Cowboys with four sacks and will look to stay on a dominant path while receiving extra attention from opposing offensive lines.
Before the Cowboys opened their season against Tampa Bay, Parsons made his goal for the campaign well-known.
“The best player in the league,’’ Parsons said. “I don’t want to be anything short of No. 1.
“That is the type of confidence I have. I want to be the best.’’
