Jerry Jones expects Cowboys’ Michael Gallup, Dalton Schultz to play vs. Commanders

Gallup’s status was left off the Cowboys’ injury report released Friday while Schultz was listed as questionable.

Cowboys quarterback Cooper Rush may have two more weapons at his disposal against the Commanders on Sunday.

Wide receiver Michael Gallup (knee) and tight end Dalton Schultz (knee) are expected to play Sunday, Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones said on 105.3 The Fan [KRLD-FM].

“As I sit here, we got more to go this week, but as I sit here, I think they’ll play,” Jones said.

When asked about offensive lineman Connor McGovern, Jones said he’s “not sure” about him.

Gallup’s injury status was left off the Cowboys’ injury report released Friday afternoon, likely signaling his return to the lineup. However, Schultz, as well as McGovern (ankle) and Jayron Kearse (knee), were listed as questionable.

Unsurprisingly, Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott was officially ruled out for a third straight game.

Gallup was a full participant in practice last week for the first time since tearing his left ACL and MCL on Jan. 2 against the Cardinals. He was expected to play against the Giants before the Cowboys officially ruled him out prior to kickoff.

Last week, Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy said the team would have to ease Gallup in to start.

“I think we have to be practical about it,” McCarthy said Thursday. “I don’t see Michael playing 70 plays in the game. It is his first game back. I think how we use, when we use him, will be part of that. … I think the biggest thing really is to get Michael through this week of work where he feels totally comfortable and confident, which I fully anticipate. In his mind, I think Michael’s ready right now.

“As far as the opportunities that we present to him, I think it will come in a role as far as how many snaps and so forth. The plan is not for him to play 70 plays.”

Schultz suffered a minor sprain to the PCL in his right knee in Week 2 against the Cincinnati Bengals. Schultz returned for one play after the injury but left hobbling. Schultz did not play against the New York Giants last week.
