Mike McCarthy says Tony Pollard will participate in Cowboys’ reduced-tempo OTAs

Pollard fractured his left fibula during the Cowboys’ playoff loss to the San Francisco 49ers in January.

Dallas Cowboys running back Tony Pollard is making progress in his injury recovery.

Coach Mike McCarthy told reporters Thursday that Pollard, who fractured his left fibula during the Cowboys’ playoff loss to the San Francisco 49ers in January, participated in the team’s reduced-tempo OTAs on Thursday. McCarthy said the team is jogging through drills.

McCarthy also said right tackle Terence Steele will not participate in OTAs. Steele tore the ACL and MCL in his left knee during a December win over the Houston Texans.

Since the Cowboys drafted Pollard in the fourth round of the 2019 NFL draft, he has increased his rushing attempts each season he’s been in the NFL. In 2022, he had career-highs in rushing attempts (193), yards (1,007) and touchdowns (nine). Dallas placed the franchise tag on Pollard in March.

Pollard’s role will expand more in 2023 as the Cowboys released longtime running back Ezekiel Elliott.
