Cowboys’ Stephen Jones on East-West Shrine Bowl moving to Frisco: ‘More than just a game’

Former Cowboys like Roger Staubach, Randy White and Bob Lilly once played in the All-Star showcase.

FRISCO — Bob Lilly played in the East-West Shrine Bowl in 1960. The man known as “Mr. Cowboy’' flew to San Francisco for the game.

He won’t have to travel nearly as far to watch next year’s game.

Lilly was at The Star Monday for the press conference to unveil that the organization will host college football’s longest running All-Star game. The 2024 game, the 99th in the series, will be played Feb. 1 at the Ford Center. The game is the signature event to raise the profile of the Shriners Children’s hospitals around the world.

“So humbled to get to do that,’’ said Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones, whose grandfather was a Shriner. “This is more than just a game.
