Get to know Deion Sanders’ five children, including two sons who star at Colorado

Sanders’ oldest, Deiondra, has appeared on multiple reality TV shows.

Former Dallas Cowboy Deion Sanders is already changing the culture and expectations for the Colorado football program. The Buffaloes’ head coach set milestones as a pro football and baseball player, but he’s also the father to notable children. Two of them play under Coach Prime at Colorado. Others have already made a name for themselves.

Here is everything to know about Sanders’ five children.

Deiondra Sanders, 31

Deiondra, the eldest of Sanders’ children, said her childhood was “bittersweet.”

“The bitter part was because I was always judged a lot in school. I didn’t have as many friends and I was always traveling with my parents” Deiondra said during an appearance on The Reflection Show. “But it was great because I probably grew up how every kid would want to.”

Deion Jr. starred at Flower Mound Marcus as a quarterback and spent a year at Atlanta Sports Academy before committing to SMU.

His three seasons with the Mustangs from 2013-15 were interesting, to say the least. From Versace sheets in his dorm room to his clothing line, a music video and a controversial meeting with Lil’ Wayne, Deion Jr. made plenty of news off the field.

On the field, Deion Jr. was a wide receiver and kickoff returner for the Mustangs. He was a second-team All-American Athletic Conference selection in 2014 after setting school records for single-game kick return yards (203) and kick returns (10). In Dec. 2015, his father publicly complained about Deion Jr.’s playing time. Deion Jr. didn’t return to the Mustangs for the 2016 season.

While Deion Sr. was head coach at Jackson State, Deion Jr. oversaw social media engagement for the team there. Currently, he covers Colorado football through his Well Off Media brand.

Shilo Sanders, 23

Shilo played at Sachse and Trinity Leadership High School (formerly Trinity Christian-Cedar Hill) while his father was the offensive coordinator.

Shilo played cornerback, receiver, punted and returned kicks as Trinity went 14-0 and won the TAPPS Division II state championship in 2018. He had 13 catches for 199 yards and three touchdowns and returned two kickoffs for touchdowns.

Coming out of high school, Shilo committed to South Carolina as one of the top-ranked cornerbacks in the country. He appeared in 13 games over two seasons in South Carolina, recording 32 tackles and one for loss.

When his father was hired at Jackson State, Shilo transferred there as well. He appeared in 20 games over two seasons there and recorded 12 pass deflections, five interceptions and two forced fumbles. He was second-team All-SWAC in 2021.

Shilo transferred again to Colorado to join Deion after he was hired as the Buffaloes’ new head coach. The safety returned an interception 80 yards for a touchdown in the Buffaloes’ Week 3 win over Colorado State.

Shilo’s status for Colorado’s upcoming game against USC is in question after he took a hard hit in the loss to Oregon. He said in a video posted by Deion Sanders Jr. that he was “peeing blood” and “needed to “go to the ER and get checked.”

Shedeur Sanders, 21

Before he joined his father at Colorado as the Buffaloes’ starting quarterback, Shedeur starred at Trinity in Cedar Hill, where Deion also coached him. During his senior season, Shedeur threw for 3,702 yards and 43 touchdowns and led Trinity to its third straight TAPPS Division II state title in 2019.

Shedeur initially committed to play college football at Florida Atlantic, but when Deion was hired as Jackson State’s head coach, Shedeur flipped his commitment to follow him.

In two seasons at Jackson State, Shedeur and his father led the Tigers to a 23-3 record, a perfect 16-0 mark in SWAC games and two SWAC championships. He currently holds the Jackson State record for passing touchdowns (40) and completions (344) in a single season. He is second in passing yards (3,752 yards; record 3,808). In two years, he threw for 6,983 yards and 70 touchdowns.

When Deion was hired as Colorado’s head coach, Shedeur followed him again. In his first game as the Buffaloes’ starting quarterback, he threw for a school-record 510 yards with four touchdowns in an upset win over then-No. 17 TCU in Fort Worth.

Shelomi Sanders, 19

Shelomi, the youngest of Sanders’ children, is a freshman on the women’s basketball team at Colorado. The Rockwall High School graduate appeared in two games at Jackson State last year before transferring during the season to follow her father and brothers.
