With Cowboys potentially starting rookie duo at OL, Tyler Smith offers words of wisdom

If things go well in training camp, Tyler Guyton and Cooper Beebe will be rookie starters. Smith knows something about that.

OXNARD, Calif. — Cowboys guard Tyler Smith enters his third season understanding what Tyler Guyton and Cooper Beebe are about to go through.

Guyton is slated as the starting left tackle and Beebe the starting center. Both are rookies.

When Smith was a rookie, he started at left guard with a possible future move to left tackle. Smith excelled, earning his first Pro Bowl berth last season and once the Cowboys selected Guyton in the first round of the draft, it was of the comfort Smith would remain at guard.

“It’s fast,” Smith said of what a rookie season would look like. “I told them when they came in, this first year is going to be the longest year of your life. They went through a whole college season, the combine, training camp and come in and do OTAs, offseason training. One thing I impart to them, just find your process and keep a level head. Make sure you have a good support system around you.”
