CeeDee Lamb, Dallas Cowboys agree to massive four-year contract extension

CeeDee Lamb cemented his status as an elite wide receiver the past two seasons.

Now, he is being paid like one.

The Dallas Cowboys secured Lamb to a four-year contract extension worth $136 million ($100 million guaranteed), a person familiar with the deal told The Dallas Morning News on Monday.

It’s the first agreement of the franchise’s big three. With Lamb done, next is quarterback Dak Prescott followed by edge rusher Micah Parsons. Parsons’ deal won’t occur until next year with the Cowboys’ most pressing needs being Lamb and Prescott, who enters the final year of his contract.

Lamb, 25, held out all of Cowboys training camp in Oxnard, Calif., resulting in $50,000 fines daily. The team has the right to rescind the fines. Lamb also skipped earlier offseason workouts.

During a news conference on July 27, Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones said Lamb wanted the largest contract for a non-quarterback in NFL history. Lamb called Jones after the news conference and said that wasn’t the case.

The sides continued to talk with the Cowboys upping the offer each time until finally getting to a conclusion Monday.

Lamb’s deal is the second-highest for a non-quarterback, behind the Vikings’ Justin Jefferson. The Vikings receiver signed a four-year, $140 million contract with $110 million guaranteed.

Lamb’s $38 million signing bonus is the highest for a receiver in league history.

The wide receiver market exploded this offseason.

In April, the Eagles signed A.J. Brown to a three-year, $96 million contract extension, with $84 million guaranteed. At the time it was the most expensive contract for a receiver in league history.

But in June, the Vikings surpassed it by signing Jefferson. His $35 million average per season is tops in the NFL at his position. Lamb slots in behind Jefferson at $34 million per year.

Lamb, a 2020 first-round pick and three-time Pro Bowler, led all NFL players with 242 combined receptions in 2022 and 2023. His 3,108 yards in that span were second to Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill (3,509). His 21 touchdown catches were second to Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams (22).

Hill agreed to a restructured contract worth $90 million over the next three years in early August.

Last year, Lamb totaled 135 receptions for 1,749 yards and 12 touchdowns.

The catch and yardage total broke Michael Irvin’s franchise records of 111 and 1,603, respectively. Irvin’s marks, set in 1995, were nearly 30 years old.

With the new deal now complete, in time for the Sept. 8 season opener in Cleveland, up next is Prescott.
