Dallas Cowboys fans can expect to hear a familiar voice during Sunday’s season opener.
Week 1′s Cowboys-Browns battle in Cleveland will serve as Tom Brady’s NFL on Fox broadcast debut. Before he takes his spot in the booth, Brady gave a preview of the showdown during halftime of Saturday’s Texas-Michigan game.
Among the topics Brady focused on was the quarterback duel between Dallas’ Dak Prescott and Cleveland’s Deshaun Watson. The seven-time Super Bowl winner said viewers can expect a “hard-nosed” football game Sunday.
“They both have huge years ahead but they’re coming off, obviously, different seasons last year. Dak’s coming off probably the best season of his career, statistically. Deshaun wants to get out there and prove that, Cleveland made the investment in him and that he can come through when it matters,” Brady said. “It’s a little bit of a different story between two very talented quarterbacks who have really played well at different times throughout their career.”
According to Brady, adjusting to new schemes could present challenges for both Dallas and Cleveland. The Cowboys enter the season with a new defensive coordinator in Mike Zimmer, while the Browns go in with Ken Dorsey as offensive coordinator.
Brady also brought up the issues defensive weapons like Micah Parsons and Myles Garrett could create throughout the game.
“There’s no way to attack those guys. Those guys attack you,” Brady said. “You have to do your best protection job in the critical moments, situational football, in the red zone, on third down. Those D coordinators are going to put those guys in position to make plays. They’re just not going to throw them out there and say, ‘Okay, you’re going to line up here.’
“They’re going to be all over the place. They’re going to be moving around. It’s up to the offenses to really identify where they’re at. Put together the best protection schemes they can to give themselves a chance to throw the ball in those must-pass situations.”
Brady officially announced his retirement from football in Feb. 2023.
