Cowboys LB DeMarvion Overshown impresses with ‘fast and violent’ outing vs. Giants

The Cowboys losing starting defensive ends Micah Parsons and DeMarcus Lawrence to injuries will put more pressure on Overshown.

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — DeMarvion Overshown put on a show in Thursday night’s victory over the Giants. The Cowboys’ linebacker finished with eight tackles and one pass breakup in 59 snaps.

“Fast and violent,” Overshown said of his efforts. “I definitely want [other teams] to turn on the tape and see No. 13 [is] fast and violent. That’s the whole defense, that’s the mentality.”

The Cowboys’ run defense struggles were solved, at least for a game, when they allowed just 26 yards on the ground against the Giants.

Linebacker Eric Kendricks said some changes pushed the Cowboys to make more plays in the run game. The Cowboys recorded six tackles for loss and led by defensive tackles Mazi Smith and Osa Odighizuwa got off a lot quicker at the line of scrimmage.

Overshown took advantage of the defensive line taking control of the line of scrimmage.

“We all got to get to the ball,” Overshown said. “When we put hits on people we’re all feeding off that energy.”

The Cowboys losing starting defensive ends Micah Parsons and DeMarcus Lawrence for an undetermined length of time to injuries will place more pressure on the linebackers, particularly Oveshown, who is emerging as one of the top playmakers.

“He’s just making tackles,” Kendricks said of Overshown. “He’s everywhere. All over the field, running to the ball causing havoc that’s what he’s supposed to be doing. He’s a good player.”

Briefly: Is there really a running back rotation? Hunter Luepke participated in 29 offensive snaps, followed by Rico Dowdle (29), who started for a third consecutive game. Ezekiel Elliott had 10 snaps and Deuce Vaughn played in four. … Kicker Brandon Aubrey made a 60-yard field goal vs. the Giants. He became the second player in league history to make multiple field goals from 60-plus yards in the same season. Former Cowboys kicker Brett Maher was the first to do it in 2019.
