After the Dallas Cowboys’ 20-15 win over the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium on Thursday night, owner Jerry Jones pointed to performances from some of the team’s young core.
Jones has recently handed out massive contracts to star veteran players Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb. In an appearance on 105.3 The Fan (KRLD-FM) he noted how the team will likely need to see further contributions from their less-experienced players throughout the remainder of the season.
“We are playing the highest number of first and second-year guys in the NFL. We’re going to get some real dividends from putting all these young players on the field. We need to do it because that’s the way our roster is built,” Jones said.
The Cowboys owner went on to specify that high-profile experienced players are exempt from high expectations in their performances on the field for the remainder of the season.
“We’ve got top salaries with some top players. Yes, they need to do just like they did last night, Lamb and Dak. On the other hand, we’re going to have to have a lot of contributions from young players. With the young players, a pro season is about two college seasons long, and we got a long way to go. These guys are getting reps, getting better guidance and will be getting better,” Jones said.
Some of the notable rookies who played vs. the Giants were tackle Tyler Guyton, defensive end Marshawn Kneeland, center Cooper Beebe and linebacker Marist Liufau.
