FRISCO — While the Cowboys deal with multiple injuries ahead of Week 5, the arrow seems to be pointing up for a key member of the team’s secondary.
Cornerback Caelen Carson was back on the practice field Wednesday after missing the team’s Week 4 win over the New York Giants. The rookie was held out of the matchup with a shoulder injury.
Although he was listed as a limited participant on the team’s latest practice report, Carson said his shoulder is “doing better” and that he’s progressing every day.
“I couldn’t wait to get back out there,” Carson said. “It felt great being back with the team.”
Carson has appeared in three games for the Cowboys this season, stepping into a starting role after DaRon Bland sustained a stress fracture in his foot.
Carson said missing last week’s game was a learning moment where he emphasized not letting the injury alter his focus. He said he focused on staying within the scheme and playbook.
While Carson made his return to the practice field, Bland continued to work off to the side Wednesday. Bland was joined by offensive lineman Chuma Edoga, who suffered a toe injury in Dallas’ preseason opener.
Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy said the team is still collecting more information before deciding to open Bland’s practice window. Bland was projected to be out six to eight weeks when his injury initially occurred.
“We need to get some more information off a workout with [associate athletic trainer] Britt [Brown],” McCarthy said. “We’re working towards that.”
