Cowboys kicker Brandon Aubrey misses second day of practice due to jury duty

However, Dallas has a plan in place for Aubrey to be fully prepared to play Sunday.

FRISCO — Brandon Aubrey takes his job seriously.

The same goes for his civic duty.

The Cowboys kicker missed his second consecutive day of practice Thursday to serve on a jury in Tarrant County. The trial isn’t expected to keep him from joining the team in Northern California for Sunday night’s game against San Francisco.

“We have a plan to make sure he’ll be ready to go Sunday,” head coach Mike McCarthy said.

Special teams coordinator John Fassel has accommodated Aubrey’s schedule by gathering Bryan Anger (holder) and Trent Sieg (deep snapper) to work with the kicker after his day in the courtroom is complete. Aubrey is scheduled to be on the team’s charter that leaves for the Bay Area Saturday afternoon.

“I mean, this happens all the time,” McCarthy said jokingly. “It’s no big deal.”

Aubrey has been the Cowboys most consistent and productive player through the first six games. He is tied for sixth in the NFL in scoring with 60 points and is tied for third in field goals made (17) with Denver’s Wil Lutz.

The second-year pro has already hit eight field goals from 50 or more yards. The NFL record for an entire season is 11.

And what if the trial continues into next week? The Cowboys depart the Bay Area immediately after their game with the 49ers and are scheduled to arrive back in Dallas at 3:45 Monday morning.

“In time for him to get back for jury duty,” McCarthy said.
