Add Pro Football Hall of Famer Michael Irvin to the list of people saying the Dallas Cowboys need to make a move before the NFL trade deadline on Nov. 5.
“It looks bad right now. The only hope the Cowboys really have right now is if some kind of move is made at the trade deadline,” he told TMZ Sports in a brief interview outside Los Angeles International Airport on Monday.
“They have to do something. It’s bad right now.”
The Cowboys fell to 3-4 on the season Sunday following another loss at the hands of the San Francisco 49ers. Dallas currently sits in third place in the NFC East behind Washington (6-2) and Philadelphia (5-2).
“I just left Dallas. Trust me, the morale is bad,” Irvin said. “I’m still trying to represent with my Cowboys hat, but really walking around saying ‘I don’t want to hear from you haters, I’d rather talk about the Miami Hurricanes.’ If you know what I mean.”
Irvin has also become a consistent fixture on the Miami sideline this college football season. Before winning multiple Super Bowls with the Cowboys, Irvin was a member of the Hurricanes’ 1987 national championship team.
The Cowboys icon was also asked about Mike McCarthy’s status as head coach as the Cowboys’ hopes of posting another consecutive double-digit win season drifts further away.
“If you continue losing, there’s something (that’s) going to have to happen. There’s never ‘it’s OK’ losing in the NFL,” Irvin said. “The toughest, most pressurized jobs in this country, top 33. I’ll give you one — POTUS, and we’ll decide that in a few days here. But from (Nos.) 2-33, NFL head coaches. Period. Bar none.”
The Cowboys will have the opportunity to get back to .500 this Sunday when Dallas faces the Atlanta Falcons.
