Dallas Cowboys acquire Panthers WR Jonathan Mingo at NFL trade deadline

Mingo, 23, was the No. 39 overall pick in the 2023 NFL draft to Carolina out of Ole Miss.

It didn’t take long for the Dallas Cowboys to make a move on trade deadline day.

Minutes after team owner and general manager Jerry Jones told 105.3 The Fan (KRLD-FM) during his weekly interview on Tuesday that the team would be trading for a wide receiver, a person familiar with the transaction informed The Dallas Morning News that a deal had been struck with the Carolina Panthers.

Headed to Dallas is wideout Jonathan Mingo and a 2025 seventh-round pick in exchange for a 2025 fourth-round pick to the Panthers.

Mingo, 23, was the No. 39 overall pick in the 2023 NFL draft to Carolina out of Ole Miss. He appeared in 15 games in his rookie season making 43 catches for 418 yards.

The 6-2, 220-pound pass-catcher has 12 receptions for 121 yards this season and still hasn’t found the endzone in his NFL career.

The Cowboys needed to open a roster spot to process the trade for Mingo.

With starting quarterback Dak Prescott “likely” headed to injured reserve, according to Jerry Jones, that transaction could have potentially created an open slot, but the team instead decided to release cornerback Andrew Booth.
