Eagles OC, former Cowboys QB Kellen Moore was well-prepared for sunlight at AT&T Stadium

Moore spent seven seasons in Dallas across different roles, so he knows all about the quirks of the Cowboys’ home field.

The Dallas Cowboys vs. the Sun continues.

On Tuesday, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said in a radio appearance that the sometimes-blinding rays of sun that shine through AT&T’s Stadium’s windows during games are a home-field advantage.

That seemed to contradict comments made by the offensive coordinator of the opposing team last Sunday. Former Cowboys OC Kellen Moore, now in the same position for the Eagles, said that it affects both teams alike, and even that he had plays ready for times the sun affected the offense’s ability to see.

“In general, for everyone, yeah [the sun is an issue],” Moore said during a media availability session on Tuesday. “Been there. I was there a long time, so.”

Not only did Moore serve four seasons as the Cowboys’ offensive coordinator, but he spent three seasons as a backup quarterback in Dallas as well.

“Obvious, any stadium has different circumstances,” Moore continued. “That one, obviously the sun plays a decent role, so you just have to call plays according to it knowing certain parts of the field at times can be a little bit challenging. We had it in the first quarter in the red zone, and then second quarter obviously we were going the other way.”

During the Cowboys’ 34-6 loss to the Eagles on Sunday, Dallas lost out on a chance to take the lead just before halftime when wide receiver CeeDee Lamb lost a ball in the sun and missed a pass. That was the biggest impact the sun had on any play during the blowout loss.

That, combined with Moore’s comments, makes the curtain-less AT&T Stadium’s sun quandary seem less like home-field advantage and more, at best, like a 50-50 proposition.
