Call of Duty League adds 5 majors, limits playoffs to 8 teams in 2021

The Dallas Empire will have more opportunities for wins next season.

More tournaments and a tougher road to a championship.

The Call of Duty League is looking for more high-stakes gameplay during the regular season, so it added major tournaments into the mix for 2021, it announced Friday morning.

The home series tournaments featured during the inaugural season to dictate standings will remain. But five majors will be added to the schedule that will include all 12 teams instead of just eight like the home series throughout 2020.

These majors will follow home series events, which will act as group play for the newly included tournaments.

This also has huge playoff implications.

CDL points will still determine the standings and teams will earn them for each match win. However, only eight teams will make the playoffs in 2021, making it all the more important to cash in on the home series and majors.

The CDL has yet to announce a start date for the 2021 season, but all eyes will be on the format as the league had to pivot to online play in its first year.

The Dallas Empire locked up the No. 2 seed at champs last season before going on a furious run to a convincing CDL title.

The Empire were successful at the home series, too, never failing to reach a semifinal and winning three events. More opportunities for wins and placements for Dallas could mean a better chance at a top seed for champs.

And the Empire will certainly have their eyes on a repeat.
