Dallas Trinity FC to face Champions League winners FC Barcelona next month

The new USL Super League club will compete against Barcelona Femeni in a friendly at the Cotton Bowl on August 30.

Dallas Trinity FC, the new professional women’s soccer team in North Texas, will compete against FC Barcelona in a friendly next month, the club announced Friday.

The teams will face off on August 30 at the Cotton Bowl, Trinity’s home stadium, as part of FC Barcelona’s preseason USA tour.

The match-up will be an important test for Trinity.

Barcelona Femeni is one of the most successful women’s soccer teams in the world. Last season, the club won its ninth championship in La Liga F, the top tier of Spanish women’s football. It also earned its third UEFA Women’s Champions League title in four years.

A strong result against Barcelona Femeni could help legitimize the league, placing it on par with the United States’ longer-established top-tier league, the NWSL.

“FC Barcelona is one of the most prestigious and successful football clubs in the world,” said Charlie Neil, Dallas Trinity FC President. “Their women’s team has received significant recognition for its high level of play and success in domestic and international competitions. This friendly will give us a valuable opportunity to compete and stand in alignment with another top-tier international squad.”

Trinity’s home opener will take place on Sept. 7 against DC Power FC, just one week after the FC Barcelona friendly.
