MCKINNEY — Kris Kim finished his first PGA Tour start in 65th place at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson on Sunday.
Kim, after shooting 1 under on the front nine, finished the back nine with four bogeys. He birdied No. 18 to finish his eventful weekend with a 73.
Kim, at 16, became the fifth-youngest player to make the cut on the PGA Tour. He also broke Dallas’ Jordan Spieth’s mark for being the youngest golfer to make the cut at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson. Spieth was a few months older when he made the cut in 2010.
“I think just playing in front of the fans this week. It’s been quite a bit of adrenaline and everything, so, yeah, it’s been really good,” Kim said. “But, yeah, just makes me want to come back even more.”
Kim, a native of Surrey, England, played on a sponsor’s exemption and it was worth it. He shot 68, 67 and 70 heading into Sunday’s final round.
When he gets back home there is school work and continuing to improve his driving lessons. Driving a car that is.
“Yeah, I didn’t realize, but I’ve got my driving license this year, so I think that’s going to be pretty cool, yeah,” Kim said.
When it comes to what he learned this week on the golf course, Kim said, “Definitely got to work on my stamina. Feel like I’ve got to watch what I eat as well and kind of train better. Yeah, I think definitely eat more on the course fruit-wise and everything like that.”
