Bryson DeChambeau to play golf with Donald Trump on his YouTube channel

The two-time U.S. Open winner will be releasing the episode on Tuesday.

Bryson DeChambeau has locked in a major guest for his YouTube channel this week.

The national champion at SMU and two-time U.S. Open champion will release an episode featuring former President Donald Trump, as they play a round of golf together for charity benefitting the Wounded Warrior Project.

“To be clear, this is about golf and giving back to our nation’s veterans, not politics,” DeChambeau said Monday on X, formerly known as Twitter.

“A few weeks ago I reached out to both parties’ presidential campaigns and @realDonaldTrump was down for the challenge. It is an incredible honor to be able to enjoy a round of golf with any sitting or former president, and all have an open invitation to join me for a round of Break 50 anytime.”

In the “Break 50″ episodes of DeChambeau’s channel — which currently has more than 849,000 subscribers — he and a celebrity or athlete partner try to shoot 49 or better in a single round with a two-person best ball format.

For each shot DeChambeau and Trump finish under par, they will donate $10,000 to the foundation.

The idea for the invitation from DeChambeau stemmed from when Trump and President Joe Biden trading barbs about each other’s golf game during a debate last month.

Answering a question about his fitness, Trump, who would be 82 at the end of a second term, bragged that he was in “very good shape” and had recently won two championships at one of his golf courses. “To do that, you have to be quite smart and you have to be able to hit the ball a long way,” Trump said.

Biden, he said, “can’t hit a ball 50 yards.”

Biden then touted his his own golf abilities. “I got my handicap, when I was vice president, down to six,” Biden said. He again challenged Trump to a golf match, but only if Trump carried his bag of clubs himself.

“Think you can do it?” asked Biden, whose handicap is listed on the United State Golf Association’s website as 6.7, with the last update in July 2018. Trump’s handicap last updated in June 2021 is listed as 2.5.

Trump called Biden’s handicap claim “the biggest lie of all,” adding: “I’ve seen your swing. I know your swing.”

Biden, who DeChambeau said did not respond to his request to play together, has dropped out of the 2024 presidential race.
