Report: Former Mavericks guard J.J. Barea to sign with Estudiantes in Spain

Barea played 11 seasons in Dallas and won a title in 2011 with the Mavs.

According to a report from The New York Times’ Marc Stein, former Mavs guard JJ Barea will sign a deal to join Estudiantes in the Spanish Liga Endesa.

The former Maverick spent 11 seasons in Dallas across two different stints. Dallas released Barea in December before the season to solve the team’s roster crunch.

Barea played 14 seasons in the NBA despite not being drafted. In 2011 when the Mavs won their first and only championship Barea was transitioned into the starting lineup and gave Dallas the offensive spark it needed to win the series.
