NBA All-Star voting: Mavs’ Luka Doncic still trails Grizzlies’ Ja Morant for 2nd among West guards

Doncic is the only Mavericks player to make the list of top 10 vote receivers by position in the conference.

Update:
This story was updated after the second and third batch of NBA All-Star Game voting results were released.

Another star guard in the West surpassed Mavericks guard Luka Doncic in NBA All-Star Game fan voting last week, and the gap between the two has only widened since.

Memphis Grizzlies guard Ja Morant now leads Doncic by roughly 700,000 votes for the second-most received among Western Conference guards in the league’s latest batch of fan voting results that were released Thursday, almost half a million more than this time one week ago.

Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James leads all all vote-getters with nearly 7 million votes. Morant is second among West guards with 2,623,359 votes, followed by Doncic with 1,923,187.

In the first batch of fan voting results released, Doncic trailed only Golden State’s Stephen Curry in ballots cast for Western Conference guards. Fan voting accounts for half of the selection process, with 25% coming from player votes and the other 25% coming from media.

After not making the All-Star team his rookie season, Doncic has taken part in the game the past two seasons. He is still the only Mavericks player to make the list of top 10 vote receivers by position in the conference.

The window for fan voting ends Saturday, with the starting lineups announced next week.
