Celtics’ Kristaps Porzingis suffers rare injury, day-to-day for NBA Finals vs. Mavericks

Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla said it’s a “serious injury.”

The Boston Celtics could be without Kristaps Porzingis against the Dallas Mavericks for Game 3 of the NBA Finals on Wednesday.

Porzingis suffered a torn medial retinaculum allowing dislocation of the posterior tibialis tendon in his left leg during Game 2, the Celtics announced on Tuesday. After saying his availability will be determined day-to-day, the team listed Porzingis as questionable for Wednesday’s matchup.

“It’s a serious injury. At the end of the day, the medical team is not going to put him in any bad situations,” Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla told reporters Tuesday. “We’ve taken the decision to play out of his hands.”
