Snoop Dogg explains viral ‘Who’s crying now?’ moment with Mavericks’ Luka Doncic

“I became a fan of Luka that night,” the rapper and pop culture icon said after watching a masterful Doncic performance from the front row.

Snoop Dogg is clearing the air.

No, the rap artist and pop culture icon says, it was not him that Mavericks’ star Luka Doncic was aiming his vitriol at during the Mavericks’ blowout win of the Minnesota Timberwolves in Game 5 of the Western Conference finals.

That was, instead, a rather raucous Timberwolves fan that helped spur Doncic on to a 36-point performance in the Mavericks’ West-clinching win in Minnesota.

Snoop, who was sitting courtside at Target Center that night, recently made a podcast appearance where he explained his side of the story and his view of the masterful Doncic performance from the front row, saying it was the night that he became a Luka Doncic fan.

Snoop Dogg: “I was there sitting with my boy Jimmy Jam. I was in town, I had a show the next night. I’m a basketball fan, I’d never seen Luka play live. I wanted to see him get down. Kyrie is a friend of mine. Just wanted to see some good basketball...

“Luka wasn’t talking to me. It was somebody that was talking [smack] to him the whole — every minute I was there, he was like ‘Luka you crybaby, you’re crying!’ Then when Luka took the lead he said ‘Who cryin’ now, [expletive]?’”

Snoop Dogg: “I was like... this [guy] is a dog! He get down, I like his get down. Because he meets the [pressure], you know what I’m saying? I became a fan of Luka that night.”

Snoop also offered up an outlook on the remainder of the NBA Finals, currently 3-1 in favor of Boston, saying: “Right now they’re down, but it’s a long series. You never know.”

Doncic and the Mavericks try to chip away at the Celtics lead again on Monday as the finals head back to Boston for Game 5.
