Warriors coach Steve Kerr sends well wishes to Klay Thompson after Mavericks move

With Team USA preparing for the Paris Olympics, Kerr took some time to thank Thompson for his 13-year stint in Golden State.

As Klay Thompson takes the next step in his career, farewells from the Bay Area continue to roll in.

Steve Kerr was the latest Golden State figure to send well wishes to the new Mavericks sharpshooter. With Team USA beginning preparations for the upcoming Paris Olympics, Kerr took some time to thank Thompson for his 13-year stint with the Warriors.

“I just want to say thank you to Klay Thompson for 13 incredible years, 10 of which I was there for. What he did for the team, the organization, for the Bay Area, and for me personally, the relationship that we had,” Kerr told reporters Saturday. “All of the incredible success, but more importantly, just going through it all together has been so meaningful and so amazing.”

Kerr joins Steph Curry and Draymond Green in delivering emotional tributes to Thompson. After winning four NBA championships with the Warriors, Thompson made an offseason move to Dallas via sign-and-trade.

He reportedly agreed to a three-year, $50 million contract with the Mavericks. With Thompson in the ranks, Dallas adds shooting and another veteran presence to a roster that just made a run to the NBA Finals.

Kerr added that he hoped to keep Thompson with the Warriors for the foreseeable future, but was understanding of the direction the 34-year-old guard is taking.

“We’re gonna miss Klay. We wish him the best,” Kerr said. “These things rarely go like you want where you get to draw it up, execute it and everybody goes out together. We were hoping that could happen, but it didn’t. We wish Klay well, but we love him and we’ll miss him.”
