Dallas Mavericks reveal alternate court for second edition of NBA Cup

The Mavericks will debut their new court on Nov. 19 against the New Orleans Pelicans.

The Mavericks were three wins shy of winning the Larry O’Brien trophy in last season’s NBA Finals, but they’ll have another opportunity to win a new trophy in the coming months.

The NBA revealed 30 new court designs Thursday for every team’s participation in the second-annual NBA Cup, formerly known as the In-Season Tournament.

Dallas has a revamped version of last year’s alternate court, which features a bold royal blue base with the city’s skyline highlighted as a silhouette. The team’s primary logo remains at center court with the tournament’s championship trophy displayed underneath. The trophy’s base is also featured on both ends of the court.

The Mavericks will debut their new court on Nov. 19 when the New Orleans Pelicans visit American Airlines Center for the first Dallas home game of the NBA Cup. The court will also be used on Dec. 3 against the Memphis Grizzlies, which is Dallas’ final game of the tourney’s Group Play stage.

The Mavericks are in West Group C, which also includes the Grizzlies, Pelicans, Golden State Warriors and Denver Nuggets.

There were several issues with some of the courts used in last season’s tournament. In the Mavericks’ opener on the road against the Nuggets, a wrongly measured 3-point line had to be fixed prior to tipoff. In New Orleans, Luka Doncic was not satisfied with the quality of the court in a loss to the Pelicans.

The Mavericks were unable to use their alternate court for the first game of last season’s In-Season Tournament due to “a manufacturing issue” that kept the court from being delivered in time for a game against the LA Clippers.

For the second home tournament game against the Houston Rockets, the court was reportedly deemed defect. Last season’s court was mostly silver, and it matched the design of last season’s “City Edition” uniforms.

The Mavericks finished 2-2 in last season’s tournament and did not qualify for the Knockout Stage.
