Oklahoma HC Lincoln Riley puts rumors to bed: ‘I’m not going to be the next head coach at LSU’

The Oklahoma head coach shot down rumors of any ties to the opening LSU job

Lincoln Riley appears to have put the rumors to bed.

The Oklahoma head coach was asked after his team’s 37-33 loss to Oklahoma State on Saturday about the rumors of a tie between himself and the soon-to-be-open LSU head coaching job.

Riley didn’t wait for the end of the question before responding.

Riley has previously denied any link between himself and the LSU head coaching job, and in similar blunt, straight-faced fashion, as well.

But the rumors have been swirling since back in October when LSU announced it would be parting ways with head coach Ed Orgeron at the end of the season. Those rumors were given new life again even tonight during the Bedlam game when an LSU student reporter tweeted that Riley and LSU had a “verbal agreement” on a contract offer. It was retweeted over a thousand times.

Fox Sports college football correspondent Bruce Feldman, widely regarded to be in-the-know, doesn’t seem to think much of the possibility of a Riley-to-LSU deal.

LSU is also said to have an interest in Texas A&M’s Jimbo Fisher, who has similarly denied interest in leaving his current job.

Orgeron coached his final game with LSU on Saturday, leading the Tigers to a 27-24 win over Texas A&M.
