Oklahoma’s Jocelyn Alo wins ESPY award for Best College Athlete in Women’s Sports

Luka Doncic and Scottie Scheffler were also among the nominees for NBA and golf honors.

Jocelyn Alo proved she was one of the best college softball players in the country this season after leading Oklahoma to its second straight national title. She’ll have to make room for one more trophy in her case.

Alo was honored with the ESPY award for Best College Athlete in Women’s Sports, claiming the honor over South Carolina’s Aliyah Boston, Florida State’s Jaelin Howell and Boston College’s Charlotte North.

She recorded a .515 batting average in the 2022 season to go with 85 RBI and 34 home runs. Alo also ended her collegiate career as the NCAA’s all-time leader in home runs, slugging percentage and total bases.

The Oklahoma softball team was a nominee for the Best Team category, but the honor was given to the NBA champion Golden State Warriors.

Luka Doncic was in the running for the ESPY for Best NBA Player, which ultimately went to the Warriors’ Stephen Curry. Nikola Jokic of the Denver Nuggets and Joel Embiid of the Philadelphia 76ers were also nominees.

Dallas’ Scottie Scheffler was up for an ESPY for the Best Athlete in Men’s Golf, which was awarded to Justin Thomas.

Cody Rhodes’ return to WWE at WrestleMania 38 also took home some recognition as the Best WWE Moment. Rhodes competed in his first match for the company since 2016, claiming a pinfall victory over Seth Rollins in the event held at AT&T Stadium.
