Over 2,000 years later, the Olympic Games include countries all across the planet competing in everything from classic events like distance running to newcomer events like breakdancing.

After an eventful and rainy opening ceremony yesterday, Texans like Asher Hong and Nic Fink will be competing today.

Which Texans compete today?

Asher Hong

A 20-year-old Stanford student who was born in Plano, was one of five gymnasts to make the U.S. Olympic men’s team at last month’s trials. The Olympian won a bronze medal with the U.S. national team at the 2023 world championships and is shooting for a spot on the podium in Paris.

Hong will be beginning men’s qualification today at 4:00 a.m. and that will run throughout the morning into the early afternoon.

Nic Fink

The Houston-born, Dallas resident is competing in the 100m breaststroke. Heats begin for the 100m breaststroke at 4:30 a.m. and semifinals begin at 2:12 p.m.

Dante Exum

The Dallas Mavericks bench player, who had key moments in their recent run to the NBA Finals, will be playing for Australia today in their game against Spain at 4:30 a.m.

Dwight Powell

The veteran big man for the Dallas Mavericks will be playing for Canada today. They match up against Greece at 2 p.m.

Kassidy Cook

Cook, a diver from The Woodlands, will be competing in the women’s synchronized 3m springboard final at 4:00 a.m.

A field hockey goalkeeper for the U.S., Bing will be squaring off against Argentina in pool play at 12:45 p.m.

Teal Cohen

The Hockaday product will be competing in the women’s rowing quadruple sculls heats at 5:50 a.m.

A member of the U.S. rugby team, Bizer will be a part of their match vs. Ireland at 8 a.m.

Kevon Williams

A member of the U.S. rugby team, Williams will be a part of their match vs. Ireland at 8 a.m.

Upcoming events

Swimming and gymnastics both begin today. Swimming finishes on Aug. 4, and the final day for artistic gymnastics is Aug. 5. Track and field runs from Aug. 1-11.

The men’s basketball final is on Aug. 10, and the women’s championship is the following day. The gold medal match for men’s soccer is on Aug. 9 at Parc des Princes, and the women hold their final at the same venue the next day. Roland Garros hosts the women’s and men’s singles finals for tennis on Aug. 3 and 4.

When will Sha’Carri Richardson run?

The Dallas native will begin her Olympic journey on Friday, Aug. 2 at 4:50 a.m. in the preliminary rounds of the women’s 100 meters.

If she advances, she would run in the semifinals on Saturday, Aug. 3, at 12:50 p.m. and potentially the final on Saturday, Aug. 3, at 2:20 p.m.

If Richardson is selected for the U.S. 4x100 meter relay, preliminary rounds will be Thursday, Aug. 8, at 4:10 a.m., and the final will be Friday, Aug. 9 at 12:30 p.m.

Other Texans competing and when

Scottie Scheffler

The Highland Park native will begin his Olympic golf tournament with the first round on Thursday, Aug. 1 at 2 a.m.

Rounds 2-4 are also at 2 a.m. from Friday through Sunday. All rounds will be shown on the Golf Channel and streaming on Peacock.

Simone Biles, Jordan Chiles, Hezly Rivera

After making her third consecutive Olympic Games, Spring native Biles will begin competition on Sunday, July 28, joined by Spring resident Chiles and Rivera, who lives in Plano. Women’s qualification will start at 2:30 a.m. and go on throughout the day.

The women’s team final will be Tuesday, July 30, at 11:15 a.m. The individual events will start Saturday, Aug. 3, and finish Monday, Aug. 5.
