The Rangers aren’t going to the playoffs, but North Texas fans officially can.
Major League Baseball announced Wednesday plans to make up to 11,500 tickets per game for the National League Championship Series and the World Series, both of which will be played at Globe Life Field in Arlington. The number constitutes about 28.5% of the new stadium’s capacity.
A limited number of seats – sold in “pods” of four - will be available to fans for purchase through MLB.com and texasrangers.com. Rangers season ticket holders will have access to a pre-sale beginning Friday at 10 a.m., and registered users for the Rangers' site will be able to access the pre-sale Monday at 10 a.m.
The remaining tickets will go on sale to the public on Tuesday at 10 a.m.
Fans will be able to buy tickets for individual games. There could be as many as 14 games played if both best-of-seven series run their full length. The NLCS starts Oct. 12; the World Series starts Oct. 20.
Among the protocols the Rangers will put into place to host fans: No seats will be sold within 20 feet of where a player could be located on the field, dugouts or bullpens (about seven or eight rows back); masks will be mandatory except when fans are actively eating or drinking at their seats; pods and seats not in use are expected to be tied down to avoid usage.
While the decision to open or close the roof will rest with MLB, Rangers executive vice president for business operations Rob Matwick said he would recommend playing as many games as possible with the roof open, weather permitting.
“I do think it would be safer for air circulation,” Matwick said. “And I looked at the forecast for next week. It’s supposed to be 82 and sunny on Tuesday.”
In addition, Matwick confirmed the Rangers are bringing back approximately 250 seasonal employees to work games during the postseason. Delaware North, the team’s concessionaire, is expected to bring back a similar number.
