Rangers’ Nathaniel Lowe hopes brotherly assist can provide solutions for hitting slump

The Rangers first baseman singled once against the Rays on Sunday, but was retired in his next 3 at-bats.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Rangers first baseman Nathaniel Lowe didn’t leave St. Petersburg empty-handed. He took home one of his brother Josh’s bats, as well.

Anything to try to break out of a slump.

Nathaniel entered Sunday hitting .211 with a .636 OPS over his previous 14 games and was seeking solutions. He’s a bit of an experimentalist when it comes to bats and Josh entered the day hitting .298 and pushing a .900 OPS. What’s a little brother good for, if not to hand over some equipment? Josh complied with a new Marucci bat (both brothers use Marucci) that had a “puck” handle.

Nathaniel went through a long explanation about Marucci’s bat design and how the product is manufactured based on lab-testing a player’s swing.

“But in English, it means it’s a bit lighter,” Nathaniel said. “And I hope to get a little more bat speed.”

He singled the opposite way the first time up, but was retired in each of his next three at-bats.
