It’s two of the best teams in baseball: The 60-win Rays and the 56-win Rangers.
No way this game doesn’t end with a clean, well-executed play, right?
Right?
That wouldn’t be baseball. The Rangers’ 3-2 win Monday evening in a crucial home series against the American League-leading Rays came on a wild pitch from Pete Fairbanks. Josh Smith cruised home and the party started in the Rangers’ dugout.
Here’s the play.

Texas continued its four-game win streak since returning from the All-Star break, which included a sweep of the Cleveland Guardians. That series included two rallies. Texas trailed Tampa until the offense came alive in the sixth inning Monday and tied the game at 2-2.
Aroldis Chapman took care of business in the ninth as one of the Rangers’ co-closers, setting up Smith and the obviously calculated winning run.
