Saddle up: 2024 MLB amateur draft is headed to the Fort Worth Stockyards

With the Texas Rangers hosting the All-Star Game in July, other parts of North Texas are landing their own MLB events.

Major League Baseball has finalized the schedule for the events around the mid-July All-Star Game at Globe Life Field, home of the Texas Rangers.

While the majority of the events during the five-day celebration of baseball around the game will take place at or adjacent to Globe Life Field, the televised first night of the MLB amateur draft will get a little more Texas-ification. It will be held in the heart of the Fort Worth Stockyards at Cowtown Coliseum on Sunday, July 14.

Dallas’ big host event will be centered around the Rangers’ West Dallas Youth Baseball Academy where MLB will hold the All-Star Commissioner’s Cup and Jennie Finch Classic from July 12-15.

The The All-Star Commissioner’s Cup features teams of youth baseball players (ages 17 and under) from MLB Youth Academies around the country and in Puerto Rico.

The All-Star Jennie Finch Classic, named after the legendary Olympic Gold Medal Winning softball player and an MLB Youth Ambassador, features teams of youth softball players (ages 17 and under) from MLB Youth Academies.

The rest of the other major events associated with the All-Star Game — the enlarged fan fest experience known as All-Star Village, the HBCU Swingman Classic college All-Star Game, the Futures Game, the Home Run Derby and the pregame Red Carpet Show — will take place at Globe Life Field or in the areas adjacent to it (Texas Live!, Choctaw Stadium).
