Texas Rangers 3B Josh Jung (fractured wrist) begins rehab work, fields ground balls

Jung underwent surgery on his wrist three weeks ago and is yet to throw a baseball since.

ARLINGTON — Josh Jung put a contraption on his hand Tuesday that he hasn’t tried in a while: a baseball glove.

While Jung’s right wrist is still swollen and stiff three weeks after he suffered a fracture when getting hit by a pitch at which he swung, he was able to get on the field and take some tossed ground balls to his glove hand from infield instructor Corey Ragsdale. He did not make any throws. He has not yet thrown since surgery.

Jung’s next step is a follow-up appointment with Arizona-based hand surgeon Dr. Donald Sheridan on Friday. Jung said Sheridan will then give him an update on how much more aggressive he can start to be with his rehab. The big follow-up, however, comes at the six-week mark post-op. Jung, who was injured in the season’s fourth game, is on the 60-day IL and not eligible to return until June 1. That would be just over eight weeks after surgery. The Rangers’ estimations postsurgery were that Jung would miss 8-10 weeks.
