Watch: Texas Rangers GM Chris Young celebrates Mavericks’ Game 4 win at AAC

Young, at 6-10, was easy to spot among the crowd of elated Mavs fans.

There’s been a lot of talk about “what makes a winner” surrounding the 2024 NBA Finals, but the Mavericks had a fan in attendance at Friday night’s Game 4 that truly has a championship pedigree.

Texas Rangers general manager Chris Young was spotted among the swath of happy Mavericks fans leaving the Game 4 blowout of the Boston Celtics, the former major league pitcher (and college basketball player) easily recognizable as he towered over the majority of the crowd.

Young, whose Rangers won their first World Series in Young’s first full season as GM, was born in Dallas and attended Highland Park before heading to Princeton. He offered fans a message on his way out of American Airlines Center after the win.

The Mavericks won the game by 38 points and both teams had emptied their benches by the third quarter, so it’s almost a little surprising the 6-10 Young wasn’t one of the 15 Mavs who saw the floor on Friday. A star at Princeton who was once offered a guaranteed contract by the Sacramento Kings, who knows? Maybe Young could still provide some value as a big off the bench.

It’s a pretty safe bet, though, that Young will be sticking to his GM duties for the defending world champs.
