Watch: Texas Rangers rookie Wyatt Langford’s incredible catch robs Padres of home run

Langford robbed Padres shortstop Ha-Seong Kim of a two-run home run.

Rookie sensation Wyatt Langford has been one of the biggest bright spots during a Texas Rangers season that has lacked many up to this point.

Langford gave fans another highlight-reel play to gush over during the Rangers’ game against the San Diego Padres at Globe Life Field on Thursday.

After Padres shortstop Ha-Seong Kim hit what appeared to be a home run off Max Scherzer in the second inning, Langford leaped and extended his glove over the wall to make the catch. The play robbed the Padres of two runs and ended the inning.

Langford was named the American League’s Rookie of the Month for June after his best stretch of baseball in the major leagues on Wednesday. The 22-year-old slashed .309/.368/.526 with three home runs in June and led all AL rookies in batting average, on base percentage, slugging percentage, OPS (.894), RBIs (22), extra base hits (12) and total bases (51).

He was named co-winner of the Rangers’ player of the month honor in June as well alongside infielder Josh Smith.

Langford, whom the Rangers selected fourth overall out of Florida in the first round of last July’s MLB draft, struggled in his first month-and-a-half as a major leaguer before a hamstring strain sidelined him for three weeks. The downtime allowed Langford a chance to reset and develop into one of Texas’ most productive hitters since his return.
