Watch: Josh Smith, Corey Seager give Texas Rangers win with clutch home runs vs. Astros

Seager tied the game with a solo blast in the eighth inning and Smith won the game with a two-run home run in the 10th inning.

The Texas Rangers lineup was largely quiet in Monday’s showdown against the Houston Astros.

Until it wasn’t.

With the Rangers’ playoff hopes fading fast, this series with the Astros seems like a bit of a last stand as the time is running short for Texas to turn things around.

The Astros took a 2-1 lead in the top of the eighth inning. But with two outs in the bottom half of the inning, Corey Seager provided a swing that was reminiscent of his game-tying homer in Game 1 of the 2023 World Series.

In the top of the 10th, the Astros took a one-run lead.

Robbie Grossman and Jonah Heim both struck out in the bottom of the 10th. With two outs, Josh Smith came to the plate and worked a 3-1 count. He was one pitch away from drawing a walk and extending the game to Corey Seager.

The game didn’t extend to Seager. Smith launched his 12th home run of the season, a two-run shot that gave the Rangers the 4-3 win. It left his bat at 104.2 mph and traveled 410 feet.

It was a badly-needed win for the Rangers to keep their playoff hopes alive for the time being.
