Forever Jung: With Josh, Jace now both in the majors, what advice can big brother offer?

Whatever you do, Jace, go easy on the room service.

ARLINGTON — Josh Jung had a little veteran advice for his baby brother, Jace, on his first real road trip in the big leagues.

Hey, big fella, go easy on the room service breakfasts.

“They were at the Ritz in Chicago,” Josh said of their early Monday Facetime conversation. “And he was like ‘Oh, I’m gonna order room service.’ I just told him that [the costs] add up quickly.”

Then again, maybe it was worth a bit of a splurge to celebrate. The duo capped their first weekend as dual big leaguers with big hits in their respective wins. Josh had a walkoff infield single for the Rangers in a big comeback win over Minnesota Sunday afternoon. Earlier in the game, his homer had given the Rangers their first lead.

A couple of hours later, Jace, playing just his third game in the majors, had a two-out, bottom-of-the-ninth game-tying single for Detroit against New York Yankees closer Clay Holmes in MLB’s Little League Classic at Williamsport, Pa.

At 23, Jace, who got his first callup on Friday, is almost three years younger than Josh. Over the weekend, the pair combined for seven hits and three walks in 25 plate appearances. To be fair, Jace had all of the walks.

“He chases way less than I do,” Josh said.

They have also talked daily. Jace’s first series as a big leaguer came against the Yankees, a team the Rangers had played only 10 days earlier. It gave Josh the opportunity to give Jace the lowdown on a handful of pitchers, including Gerrit Cole, who Jace faced in his debut, and Holmes. It’s the first time the brothers have been able to share notes. Though both attended MacArthur High School in San Antonio and Texas Tech, they’ve never been at the same level at the same time.

In this, Josh said he sees something the brothers can use to their advantage.

“We get to face competition together now and put what we get [in terms of information] to the test,” Josh said. “It’s pretty cool to be able to share: ‘Hey, what do you have on this guy?’ with each other.”
