Chris Young: Texas Rangers expect to retain coaching staff for 2025 campaign

The Rangers’ President of Baseball Operations added that some ‘minor roles and responsibilities’ may shift.

ARLINGTON — Run it back, part two.

The Texas Rangers expect to retain their existing coaching staff for the 2025 season, President of Baseball Operations Chris Young said Tuesday. Young acknowledged that other organizations could pursue members of the Rangers’ staff to fill vacancies and that Texas “may shift slightly some minor roles and responsibilities.”

But, until then, the staff that led Texas to a World Series title and ensuing failed repeat bid will return for a third consecutive season.

“In terms of personnel,” Young said, “we expect everybody back.”

The Rangers’ incumbent group includes manager Bruce Bochy, pitching coach Mike Maddux, hitting coach Tim Hyers, bench coach/offensive coordinator Donnie Ecker and associate manager Will Venable.

Bochy will enter the third and final season of a three-year contract in 2025 but said Tuesday that he hasn’t given any thought to his managerial future beyond that. Maddux and Venable each joined the Rangers’ staff prior to the 2023 season while Hyers and Ecker have been with the club since the 2022 season.

Maddux and the Rangers’ pitching coaches navigated an injury-laden season, helped usher top prospects Jack Leiter and Kumar Rocker to the major leagues and stabilized a bullpen which nearly kept Texas from the playoffs last year. The regression came on offense: The Rangers ranked 23rd in team on base-plus slugging percentage (.686) this season after they led the American League in that category during their World Series season.
