Mayor Eric Johnson knows who he’s supporting in this year’s Battle for the Iron Skillet.
Before SMU and TCU face off for the latest installment of their long-tenured rivalry, Johnson declared Monday as the official start of Iron Skillet Week in Dallas. The event will last until Saturday when the teams face off at Gerald J. Ford Stadium.
“I am proud to proclaim #IronSkilletWeek in the @CityOfDallas!” Johnson wrote on X/Twitter on Monday evening. “All week long, we’ll be showing our support for @SMUFB leading up to their big game against @TCUFootball this Saturday. Go Ponies!”

This year’s Iron Skillet will be the penultimate meeting between the Mustangs and Horned Frogs for the foreseeable future. A TCU spokesman told The Dallas Morning News last year the university will pause its longstanding football series with SMU after the 2025 season.
The North Texas universities have played each other 102 times since 1915. TCU won last year’s game 34-17 in Fort Worth, pushing its lead in the series to 53–42–7.
It isn’t the first time Johnson has shown his support for a Dallas team. Earlier in the summer, he took part in various Stars- and Mavericks-related wagers.
