George W. Bush, Bryson DeChambeau among stars in attendance for SMU’s ACC debut

It was a sellout crowd at Ford Stadium, including some notable guests.

UNIVERSITY PARK — The stars were out on SMU’s campus Saturday night, as the Mustangs played their first ACC game against Florida State.

Some of SMU’s marquee alumni and representation from the conference were in attendance to watch the historic game at Ford Stadium.

Former President George W. Bush and First Lady Laura, an SMU alum, led the pregame festivities and coin toss ahead of the game. Bush’s Presidential Library is also on SMU’s campus.

Former SMU running back and All-American Eric Dickerson was also on the field pregame, making his entrance in a convertible. Dickerson played for SMU from 1972-1982 and totaled 4,450 yards rushing and 47 touchdowns, leading the Mustangs to back-to-back Southwest Conference titles.

Another member of SMU athletic royalty, who has spent a lot of time on the Hilltop this season, returned Saturday. Professional golfer and SMU alum Bryson DeChambeau joined the ACC Network on-field set ahead of Saturday’s game.

Lastly, with SMU making its ACC debut against the reigning conference champion, ACC Commissioner Jim Phillips was on the Hilltop for his first football game.
