SMU cornerback Jahari Rogers opts out of remainder of 2024 season, enters transfer portal

Rogers had appeared in four games for SMU this season.

SMU cornerback Jahari Rogers announced Monday evening that his time on the Hilltop is over.

The senior, who had appeared in four of SMU’s five games this year, said in a statement that he will be opting out of the remainder of the 2024 season and enter the transfer portal as a graduate transfer.

Rogers, an Arlington native, was in his fourth season with the Mustangs after transferring from Florida following his freshman season. He appeared in 41 games in his four years at SMU, including all 14 last season where he recorded 19 tackles and an interception.

Rogers recorded three total tackles and a forced fumble against TCU as well as three pass breakups, which came against BYU and Houston Christian.

While Brandon Crossley and Deuce Harmon have taken the majority of the snaps at corner, Rogers was still a rotation player for SMU this year.

In high school at Arlington, he was named the District 4-6A MVP as a junior when he played quarterback, throwing for 2,670 yards and 31 touchdowns while rushing for 819 yards and 15 more scores.
