TCU quarterback Max Duggan named Davey O’Brien Award finalist

Duggan has led the Horned Frogs to a 12-0 record and ranks fourth in the nation with a 171.3 passing efficiency rating.

TCU quarterback Max Duggan has been named a finalist for the 2022 Davey O’Brien Award, which is given annually to the nation’s top quarterback.

Duggan is the first Horned Frog to be named a finalist since Trevone Boykin in the 2014-15 season.

Duggan has led the Horned Frogs, ranked 7th in the Big 12 preseason poll, to a 12-0 record. With the College Football Playoffs just around the corner, TCU’s resume is stronger than ever.

Duggan, statistically, has had an outstanding year. His 171.3 passing efficiency rating ranks fourth in the nation and he has scored three or more touchdowns in eight starts this season.

To head coach Sonny Dykes, however, Duggan’s statistics fail to reveal his true value. On Nov. 22, Dykes said the Horned Frog QB is a great decision-maker and leader, which won’t show up in a stat sheet. He added the team has an “undying belief” in Duggan, who only cares about playing winning football.

Other finalists include USC’s Caleb Williams and Ohio State’s C.J. Stroud.
