TCU quarterback Max Duggan named 2022 Johnny Unitas Golden Arm award recipient

The Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award is given to the nation’s top upperclassmen quarterback

TCU quarterback Max Duggan has been named the 2022 Johnny Unitas Golden Arm recipient. The award is given to the nation’s top upperclassmen QB.

Duggan, fourth in the nation with a 171.3 passing efficiency rating, has scored three or more touchdowns in eight of 11 starts this season. The Horned Frogs’ QB has has powered the TCU offense with the big play; Duggan leads the Big 12 Conference with 16 touchdown passes of 20 or more yards.

He also leads the Big 12 with 13.9 yards per completion and a 66.6% completion percentage. Duggan has been efficient, only throwing three interceptions.

Even though the statistics are impressive, the Horned Frog QB’s best qualities are not on a stat sheet, according to head coach Sonny Dykes. Facing adversity, Duggan has continued to fight in every situation, regardless how tough. Down 26-28 vs. Baylor, he led an improbable game winning drive to keep TCU undefeated.

Duggan, when asked about personal accomplishments on Oct. 1, had a simple response.

“I just want to win,” said Duggan.

The Horned Frogs, one of three undefeated teams in the nation, have done just that. Now, TCU and Duggan have one more game before the College Football Playoff selection day: The Big 12 Championship vs. Kansas State.

Other finalists for the Golden Arm included Georgia’s Stetson Bennett, Tennessee’s Hendon Hooker, Oregon’s Bo Nix and Ohio State’s C.J. Stroud.
