TCU spring breakout candidates: Aledo product Hauss Hejny in line for more reps

With the latest injury development regarding Josh Hoover, Hejny could see an increase in practice time.

This is one of a five-part series examining potential breakout players for the Horned Frogs this spring...

Hauss Hejny

Year: Freshman

Position: Quarterback

Earlier this offseason, the biggest question was if Hejny would have an opportunity to play. The answer? Only if Rockwall-Heath alum Josh Hoover had an injury. Well, that is now a reality for the Frogs as spring practices quickly approach.

The only information known about Hoover’s injury is that he will miss the entirety of the team’s spring practice, and that the school expects him to be fully cleared come summer workouts.

This should make the spring game more interesting for Frog fans as Hejny is in line for more practice reps and scrimmage snaps. This also opens the door for transfer QB Ken Seals to get in some extra work after his transfer from Vanderbilt.

Hejny was undoubtedly the headliner of this recruiting class for the Frogs. The 5-10, 185-pound quarterback won back-to-back 5A state championships at Aledo, throwing for 5,021 yards and 50 touchdowns. He was the 12th-ranked QB in the class of 2024 and the 32nd-ranked prospect in Texas, according to 247Sports.

Although a bit undersized, Hejny has proven he has what it takes to win at a high level. With increased opportunities this spring for Hejny, head coach Sonny Dykes and offensive coordinator Kendal Briles can see what kind of prospect they have for the future, and potentially the upcoming season if Hoover falters or gets injured.
