Texas A&M’s Marcel Reed, Trey Zuhn III receive weekly SEC honors

The duo earned Freshman and Offensive Lineman of the Week recognition after the Aggies’ win over Florida.

A pair of Texas A&M football players were recognized Monday for their efforts in the Aggies’ 33-20 win at Florida, as quarterback Marcel Reed was named the SEC Co-Freshman of the Week and junior left tackle Trey Zuhn III earned SEC Offensive Lineman of the Week honors.

The pair is the first A&M duo to receive weekly recognition since QB Conner Weigman was tabbed as the SEC Freshman of the Week and running back De’Von Achane was named the SEC Offensive Player of the Week on Nov. 28, 2022 following the Aggies’ 38-23 upset of No. 6 LSU.

A&M tallied 488 offensive yards on Saturday, with Reed collecting 178 yards and two touchdowns on 11-of-17 passing in his first career start. The redshirt freshman added 83 yards and a touchdown on the ground on 13 carries while avoiding any sacks in place of Weigman.

Reed connected with eight different receivers and had an eye for big plays with five passes for 15 or more yards and four runs for 10 or more yards. His scrambling ability proved to be an asset as he prolonged drives with his legs, highlighted by a 31-yard run on 2nd-and-21 in the Aggies’ opening drive.

A&M ranks ninth in the nation with 263 rushing yards per game.

The Aggies had touchdown drives of 99 and 92 yards, the first time they’ve had two scoring drives of 90 or more yards in a game since 2007. The offensive line has allowed an SEC-low six tackles for loss this season and just two sacks.

A&M returns to action at 6:30 p.m. Saturday against Bowling Green at Kyle Field.
