Texas kicker, Flower Mound product Bert Auburn rewarded with scholarship

Coach Steve Sarkisian surprised and rewarded the senior from Flower Mound with a scholarship during a team meeting.

FBS teams are limited to 85 scholarship spots per year, and often the kickers can miss the cut when it comes to receiving those. Just this past fall, the team that Texas played in the College Football Semifinal, Washington, surprised their kicker Grady Gross with a scholarship.

Auburn had a banner 2023 season amidst the team’s run to the College Football Playoff. He set Texas single-season records with 29 field goals made and 143 points scored. Auburn was selected to the All-Big 12 First Team for his efforts in the 2023 season.

Coming out of Flower Mound High School in 2021, Auburn was a preferred walk-on, which guaranteed him a roster spot, but not a scholarship. After sitting his freshman year, he succeeded current Los Angeles Chargers place kicker Cameron Dicker during his sophomore campaign.
