Why Texas’ Quinn Ewers says he, Arch Manning are the best QB room in the nation

The two Texas high school football legends chatted on Robert Griffin III’s podcast “RG3 and The Ones”.

Texas Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers and former Heisman Trophy winner and Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin III have more than a few things in common.

Besides being Texas high school football legends with Ewers being a Southlake Carroll product and Griffin III a Copperas Cove graduate, the two went on to play QB for Texas universities and both will have graced the cover of the EA Sports College Football video game franchise.

Ewers appeared on Griffin III’s podcast Wednesday, where the two talked about everything from the Texas QB’s doppelgängers to Arch Manning and UT’s move to the SEC.

One of the more notable moments from the conversation was when Griffin III referenced the strength of Texas’ QB room.

“I thought you guys had the best quarterback room in the country. Now that was with you, Malik Murphy, and of course Arch Manning,” Griffin said. “Who do you think has the best quarterback room in the country? And why is it Texas?”

Ewers responded, “I really think it’s us. I mean, the way that we all prepare, you saw the spring game. We’re all capable of making great great plays. Sark and coach Mill have us dialed up. Actions speak for themselves.”

Griffin III poked fun at Ewers’ appearance in the video game and comparing him to another notable Texas athlete.

Griffin III asked, “At what point did you realize that you were Luka Doncic’s long-lost brother?”

“I’ll take that as a huge compliment. Are you serious? That dude’s ballin,” Ewers responded.

Griffin III asked Ewers about the dynamic of having a name like Manning alongside him in the QB room.

“How have you and Arch and the rest of that room managed to stay good teammates to each other even when sometimes the noise outside the facility or the building starts to creep up?”

Ewers answered, “We’re really intense competitors. And we all want the same outcome, right? But at the end of the day, I think we’re better humans. And I think we’re better people. We really enjoy each other’s company in that quarterback room.”

Griffin III finished up the interview questioning Ewers about Texas’ move to the SEC and how the team feels about the change.

“You talk about being excited to get to the SEC, what are you looking most forward to with this new challenge?”

“I’ve always wanted to play in the SEC and for Texas’ first season in the SEC ... couldn’t be more excited,” Ewers said.

Ewers added, “We’re all excited and I think [football] means a lot to all the schools in the SEC. I mean, it’s like that Southern lifestyle you know, football and family. We just feel like it means more and we’re excited to be a part of it.”
