Texas Longhorns WR Johntay Cook II no longer with program, Steve Sarkisian confirms

Cook was a five-star recruit coming out of DeSoto after winning a state championship in 2022.

Texas Longhorns wide receiver Johntay Cook II is no longer with the program, Steve Sarkisian confirmed in a media availability on Thursday.

The Texas football coach said Cook’s exit was a mutual decision “between the two of us.”

In his second season with Texas, Cook had eight catches for 137 yards and two touchdowns.

Cook was a five-star recruit coming out of DeSoto. During his senior season in 2022, he had 84 catches for 1,478 yards and 22 touchdowns and was The Dallas Morning News All-Area Offensive Player of the Year. Cook was also a part of DeSoto’s state championship team and was an All-American that season.

“We have nothing but respect for [him], his family,” Sarkisian said. “Wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors.”
