Texas Tech announces that 23 football players or staff members tested positive for COVID-19

The positive cases came from a 197-person sample.

Texas Tech’s athletic department announced Friday that 23 football players or staff members had tested positive for the coronavirus.

In a release from Athletic Communications Director Matt Dowdy, the school acknowledged that the positive COVID-19 cases came from a group of 197 completed tests for the virus.

Of the 23 positive cases, 21 recoveries have since been reported. None of the cases required hospitalization.

Each of the individuals who tested positive for COVID-19 was isolated for a period of at least 10 days, in accordance with CDC guidelines, City of Lubbock Health Department procedures and university safety protocols. Contact tracing was also conducted.
