Texas Tech QB Tyler Shough expected to miss six weeks with broken collarbone

Shough suffered the injury in Texas Tech’s 70-35 loss to Texas.

Texas Tech had injury added to insult in the wake of its 70-35 loss in Austin when head coach Matt Wells told the media Sunday night that his starting quarterback Tyler Shough suffered a broken collarbone during the loss.

Shough’s final pass of the game was intercepted and returned for a touchdown by Texas’ Josh Thompson. Wells said he expects his quarterback to miss six weeks with the injury.

This is Shough’s first season in Lubbock after transferring from Oregon, where he started in 2020. Against Texas, before his injury, the Arizona native completed nine of 11 passes for 68 yards.

The junior has completed 69.6% of his passes for 872 yards, six touchdowns and three interceptions in four starts this season. Henry Colombi, Texas Tech’s starter to end the 2020 season, will likely take over for the Red Raiders during Shough’s absence.
